Monroe Duncan Macpherson
Monroe Duncan Macpherson, beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, of Winchester, VA, formerly of Moneta, VA and Westfield, NJ died August 19, 2016 after a brief illness.
Born September 5, 1927 in Chicago, IL, Mac grew up in Highland Park, IL. He graduated from the University of Michigan in 1951 with a degree in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering. He received his MBA from NYU. He spent the majority of his career in the tanker division of Esso/Exxon Corporation. On June 16, 1951, he married Kathryn Ann Lynch. The early years of their marriage were spent in Cleveland, OH, Beloit, WI and MI and in 1956, they settled in Westfield, NJ, where they lived until 1992. Mac was active in the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers, the boy scouts and several Civil War Roundtable organizations. In 1992, they moved to Moneta, VA at Smith Mountain Lake where they spent 13 years enjoying the beauty of the Virginia mountains and the sparkling waters of the lake. They moved to Shenandoah Valley Westminster Canterbury in Winchester, VA in 2005, splitting their time between Winchester and the Lake.
Mac is predeceased by his beloved wife of 62 years and survived by son, Douglas and daughter-in-law, Laurie, of Fairfax, VA, son, David and daughter-in-law, Julie , of Wytheville, VA, daughter, Pamela Brouder of Fairfax, VA, grandsons, Evan Macpherson and Cameron Chase of Wytheville, Ryan Macpherson of Boston, MA, Graham Brouder of Harrisonburg, VA, granddaughters, Jennifer Brouder of Chapel Hill, NC and Kailey Macpherson of Fairfax, VA.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Trinity Ecumenical Church, 40 Lakemount Drive, Moneta, VA 24121 or the Shenandoah Valley Westminster Canterbury Employee Appreciation Fund, 300 Westminster Canterbury Drive, Winchester, VA 22603. Memorial services are being planned for September 2016 in Winchester and Moneta.
