Miriam Bowley Owens, 76, of Frederick County, Virginia passed away Thursday, October 5, 2017 at Winchester Medical Center.
Mrs. Owens was born in 1940 in Winchester, Virginia, the daughter of the late Theodore and Virginia Bowley. She attended John Handley High School and was a homemaker, providing a warm and loving home for her husband, Ron, and their family. Miriam was a Girl Scout Leader, an avid Redskins fan, loved NASCAR, especially Richard Petty, and drag racing with her son, Kenny. She was a fan of Reba McEntire; enjoyed fishing, camping, crocheting, baking and traveling to Disney World and the beach. Her favorite time of year was Christmas and with her love of singing she thoroughly enjoyed all the Christmas music. Above all else, her greatest joy and passion was her family. Miriam was a member of Sunnyside Presbyterian Church. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and sister that will be missed and loved always.
Miriam married Ronald E. Owens on December 29, 1959 in Hagerstown, Maryland.
Surviving with her husband of 57 years are daughters, Cathy Lowery (Roger) of Winchester, Virginia and Jeanette Owens-Tavenner (Ronald) of Boyce, Virginia; son Kenneth “Kenny” Owens of Winchester, Virginia; grandchildren, Amy Maynard (Daniel) of Gore, Virginia; Kyle Hamill of Winchester, Virginia; Jeffrey Owens of Winchester, Virginia; Kevin and Elizabeth Hamill both of Martinsburg, West Virginia; Megan Sine (Tanner) of Winchester, Virginia; Anna Lowery of Winchester, Virginia; Dalton Dunn of Boyce, Virginia; ten great grandchildren; and sister, Katherine “Katty” Bowley of Winchester, Virginia.
A gathering of family and friends will be from 6 pm to 8 pm on Monday at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:30 pm on Tuesday at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel with Pastor Ralph Fletcher, Jr. officiating. Entombment will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park Mausoleum, Winchester, Virginia.
Serving as pallbearers Jeffrey Owens, Daniel Maynard, Daniel Philyaw, Ronald Tavenner, Dalton Dunn, and Tanner Sine.
