Millard Harris Moore, Jr., 88, of Frederick County, Virginia, died Tuesday, November 4, 2014, in Winchester Medical Center.
Mr. Moore was born in 1926 in Lynchburg, Virginia, the son of the late Millard H. and Lucy B. Moore, Sr. He was a graduate of E.C. Glass High School, Class of 1947. Mr. Moore was a veteran having served in the United States Army during World War II from 1944 to 1946 achieving the rank of Sargent. He was a Virginia State Trooper for 31 years retiring in 1982, his entire duty post in the Frederick County, Virginia area. He was a devoted member of First Christian Church for over 60 years. Harris was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to many. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He married Frances Brooks on July 3, 1947, in Hagerstown, Maryland.
Surviving with his wife of 67 years are his sons, Glenn Moore and wife, Sally, of Winchester, Virginia, Terry Moore and wife, Angela, of Grottoes, Virginia; four grandchildren; Scott Moore and his wife Jennifer, Rob Moore, Caleb Moore, and Justin Moore and his wife Sarah; one great grandchild; Cooper Moore and his sister, Nancy L. Green and husband, Richard, of Manassas.
One sister, Hazel Ferguson and two brothers, Thomas Earl Moore and Harold Glenn Moore, preceded him in death.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Winchester Medical Center for their quality medical treatment. A special thanks is given to Dr. Melanie Mattson for her compassion and extensive care for the past fifteen years.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 10:00-11:00 AM at First Christian Church.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM at First Christian Church with Reverend Joan Rainsberger officiating. Interment will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park, Frederick County, Virginia.
