Mildred Holliday Whitacre, age 95, of Catlett, Virginia passed away peacefully in her home on Saturday, July 9, 2016. She is back in the loving arms of her husband, Robert Earl Whitacre.
Mildred was born November 21, 1920 in Frederick County, Virginia, the daughter of the late Martin A. and Bertha M. Holliday. Mildred was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many. She was a homemaker and devoted her life to her family. Mildred also opened her heart and home to many kids becoming known to all as Nana. She worked a few various positions being a baker with Fairfax County Schools as well as a seamstress. She can be forever remembered for her strong faith, love of family, crocheting, quilting and excellent cooking. She was truly one of kind and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Mildred married Robert Earl Whitacre on September 13, 1941 and he preceded her in death on December 20, 1975.
Mildred is survived by a daughter, Helen W. Viel and her husband James of Springfield, Virginia and a son, James R. Whitacre and his wife Mary of Catlett, Virginia; one grandson, Robert Whitacre of Spotsylvania, Virginia; one brother John Holliday of Winchester, Virginia, as well as many extended family members and close friends.
In addition to her parents and husband Mildred was preceded in death by one sister, Rebecca Luttrell and three brothers, Charles E. “Bill”, Melford “Buzz” and Franklin “Buddy” Holliday.
Visitation will be on Wednesday from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM, Thursday, July 14, 2016 at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel with Reverend Craig Whitacre officiating. Interment will be in Chestnut Grove Cemetery, Frederick County, Virginia.
