Mildred G. Brumback, of Belle Grove, Middletown, Virginia passed away on August 31, 2026.

She was born on March 12, 1924, to Andrew Carril and Alice Licklider Grim on the family farm near Ridings Chapel. She married on December 12, 1945, Malcolm T. Brumback who predeceased her. Since her marriage she lived on the Belle Grove property. She attended High View elementary school, Stephens City High School, and Middletown High School from which she graduated from in 1941. Later she attended classes at Lord Fairfax Community College.

She was a member of the Ridings Chapel United Methodist Church and its administrative board. She formerly was a trustee of St. Thomas Chapel in Middletown, a president of the Women’s Civic League of Winchester, a member of the Glen Burnie Garden Club of Winchester, and a member of the Belle Grove Docents Guild. As a member of the Middletown Heritage Society, she received the Gene Dicks award in 2011. In 1996 she wrote and published an historical review of Ridings Chapel.

In September 1941 she began a retail career with Leggett stores, now Belk, in Winchester. She retired in 1979 as a buyer and Divisional Merchandise Manager of the Leggett second floor in downtown Winchester. She later established China Matching Inc., a china and crystal replacement service.

She is survived by her son, Larry S. Brumback, a daughter, Deborah B. Luyster and three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

A Graveside Service will be held on Friday, September 4, 2026, at 1:00pm at Ridings Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery with Pastor Mary Lock officiating.

Memorials may be made to Ridings Chapel Church specifically for the preservation of the cemetery or to Belle Grove Plantation.
