Michael “Mike” Shelton March, 52, of Frederick County, Virginia passed peacefully with his family by his side on Sunday, April 16, 2017. His long battle with cancer is over.
Mike was born in 1964 in Arlington, Virginia, the son of the Frances L. Luttrell and the late John S. March, as well as the stepson of Marjorie L. March and the late John W. Luttrell. He graduated from Chantilly High School, Class of 1982 and attended Northern Virginia Community College and Lord Fairfax Community College. Mike was a Network Technician with Navy Federal Credit Union. He was a member of Hiram Masonic Lodge 21 and was the co-founder, leader and organizer of The Gaggle of Noobs Fundraising Group. Mike started his own non-profit foundation for Bikes for Tykes (Michael S. March Foundation, Inc.). He was an avid reader who had a passion to learn about everything and loved football/Redskins fan. Mike attended New Life Christian Church in Frederick County, Virginia and was a friend to everyone he met.
Mike married Tammy Harshbarger on October 9, 2008 in Winchester, Virginia.
Surviving with his beloved wife, Tammy, are stepdaughters, Carmen Windsor and Christine McPherson both of Pensacola, Florida; stepson, Justin Windsor (Micah) of Xenia, Ohio; step-grandchildren, Brandon Lawwill, Blaike Windsor, and Adasyn Windsor of Xenia, Ohio, Brenton and Amaya Daniel of Stafford, Virginia and Antonio McPherson of Pensacola, Florida; sister, Christine L. Baker (Tony) of Capon Bridge, West Virginia; brother, Larrick S. March (Susan Pierce) of Brucetown, Virginia; stepsisters, Anita Wilson (Timothy) and Robin Malone (Chase) both of Winchester, Virginia and Sheila Corbett (Corey) of Cross Junction, Virginia; stepbrother, William McDermott (Lisa Whiteside) of Gauley Bridge, West Virginia.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM on Sunday at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel. A Celebration of Life service will follow at 4:00 PM with Pastor Larry Veach officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.
Memorial contributions in memory of Mike may be made to Gaggle Empire (his fundraising group), Box 270, 4 Weems Lane, Winchester, Virginia 22601. The contributions will be donated to the Winchester Medical Center Cancer Center and the Michael S. March Foundation, Inc., Bikes for Tykes as well as The Laurel Center of Winchester, Virginia.
