Michael S. Kaplan

Michael “Mike” Samuel Kaplan, 46, of Frederick County, Virginia, died Thursday, December 23, 2010, in Winchester Medical Center, as a result of complications that developed from his 9 months of rescue and recovery service at ground zero after 9/11.

Mr. Kaplan was born in Freeport, Long Island, New York, the son of Joseph Dauphinais and Bonnie Marlene Kaplan. He was formerly employed by Public Service Testing, Environmental Lab in Woodside, New York, which was actively involved with the 911 aftermath. He was a volunteer Fire Fighter with Clearbrook Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department and formerly was employed by Lowes in Winchester, Virginia. He attended Queens Community College in Queens New York.

Surviving is his mother, Bonnie, of Winchester, Virginia, his daughter, Jessica Marie Kaplan of New York and son, Jonathan Michael Kaplan of Kew Gardens, New York.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst chapel. Interment will be private. Shiva will be observed at the home of Bonnie Kaplan, Wednesday evening thru Friday afternoon.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday prior to the service from 12:00-2:00 PM at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
