Michael Keith Underwood, 67 of Winchester, VA passed away Sunday, September 26, 2021 at his home.

Michael was born in 1954 in Front Royal, VA to the late Lester Widdeman Underwood and Maxine Iden (McCarty).He was a graduate of Clark County High School and retired as a Water Treatment Plant Operator. Michael was definitely a sports fanatic based on his love of the Baltimore Orioles, Maryland Terrapins and the Pittsburg Steelers.

Michael is survived by his wife, Carole Anne; daughters, Rachel Howard, Rebecca Merriweather, Alyce Schmitt and Audrey Underwood; grandchildren, Lauren & Miles Howard, Noelle Merriweather, Michael William Schmitt and Amayah “Frankie” Hall; sisters, Linda Kimbrough & Family, Donna Underwood, Tracy Kline & Family; brothers, Dennis Underwood & Family and Ricky Underwood & Family.

A celebration of Michael’s life will be held at a later date.

I cannot express in words the deep sadness I feel for Mike's passing. My sincere condolences to the Underwood family. Mike will be sorely missed. Mike was one of a kind. Always joyful and had a story to tell. We went to many O's games, attended Super Bowl parties at his house, Wolf Trap, and watched a few Steelers/Redskins games with him at our house. He also helped us move into our house...something nobody really wants to do, but he was a trooper, and I will always appreciate his willingness to volunteer for that nasty job. What always sticks in my mind is that when we were together and a sports team was doing poorly, Mike would say, "Press (Jimi), you and I could get a team together and beat them." Always makes me laugh when I think about how many times he said that. I will miss him dearly.

Peace of mind is a call away. We're here when you need us most.

To Carole Anne and the girls and all of Mike's family we are so sorry for your loss. I have so many great memories of Mike. Our fun times in school, the years we work together, going to Orioles games and John Prine concerts, and Super Bowl parties. He was a true friend and will be missed.

I am so sorry to hear about Mr. Underwood's passing. He was such a sweet man who thought the world of his granddaughter, aka Frankie. I have missed seeing him at the school and hearing his stories that he loved to share --especially about his granddaughter. Please know my thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time and he will surely be missed.

Carol and family, My prayers are with all of you, Mike's smiling face and joyous laughter will be greatly missed by so many of us. He fought the good fight. He lived his life to the fullest and you sweet Carol was the love of his life . He now is smiling down from heaven and his joy is complete. God bless him!

Mike was a great guy. He loved life and loved to laugh and have fun. RIP Mike.

I have known thousands of persons, but I have never met anyone who was a more kind, loving and joyful person as Mike. Fifty years ago, he told me, "I feel so much more comfortable driving in a car with you than Bruce (Reed)." I replied, "That's a low bar to clear!" I can still and always will, hear his laughter. You were special in so many ways, Mike, and I will miss you dearly.

My heart aches for your family. Mike had a huge impact on my life in my younger years and I’ve missed and thought of him often. Seeing him was always a joy.
