Michael Borland passed away surrounded by his family on March 11th, at approximately 3 AM. Born in 1966 in Fort Gordon, Georgia to Arthur Kent Borland and Kay Marie Borland, Michael moved to Virginia as a teenager and lived in the Northern Virginia area the rest of his life. An early pioneer of information technology, he joined the industry in the late 90s, and spent the last 18 years working as an IT engineer for Pentagon Federal Credit Union. Outside of work, Michael was an avid consumer of movies, television, and music, sci-fi being a particular favorite. In more recent years, you could find keeping up with his blog to talk all things tech with his peers online. Always a sports fan, he enjoyed watching football, Premier League soccer, Formula 1, and golf.
Michael is survived by a large and loving family, many of whom were able to visit and spend time with him prior to his passing. He leaves behind his wife of 33 years, Carol, as well as children Katie and Nick. He is also survived by his brother Christopher, Christopher’s children Alexander and Lindsay, and his mother Kay.
Michael will be remembered for always lending a helping hand (including tech support), bad dad jokes, and the love he had for his family and friends.
If you’d like to join us at Michael’s Celebration of Life, it will be held at the Museum of the Shenandoah Valley on Saturday. April 11th, from 2-4pm.
If you’d like to make a donation in Michael’s memory, he supported the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital and the American Cancer Society.
