Maxwell F. Short
Mr. Maxwell Franklin Short, age 74, of Winchester, VA, died Saturday, December 24, 2011, at Winchester Medical Center. Max was born in 1937, in Luray, VA, the son of the late Garland and Reva Short. He owned and operated the Melmax Room from 1970-1986. Max was a member of the Eagles Club, Moose Club, Elks Club, and the American Legion. Max served with the United States Army.
He married Margaret “Peggy” Gibson Short in 1982. His previous wife, Anita Mearkle Short, passed away March 27, 1980.
Surviving with his wife are two sons,(from a previous marriage); Scott Short of Winchester, VA and Jeff Short and his wife, Susan, of Salem, Virginia; step-sons, Michael Lee Clem, Jr. and James Albert Grose, Jr. both of Winchester; a grandson, Forrest Short, two granddaughters, they were his pride and joy, Krista Michelle Clem of Berryville, VA and Aleshia Maxine Grose of Williamsport, MD; a sister, Susan Short, of Oklahoma, and a brother, David Short of Luray, VA; many nieces and nephews on his wife’s side of the family.
His brother, Gerald Short, preceded him in death.
A funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday, at 2:00 PM, at Omps Funeral Home with the Reverend Paul Campbell officiating. Interment will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park with military honors provided by VFW Post 2123.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening, from 6:00 until 8:00 PM, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
