Max J. Umbenour, 83, of Stephenson, Virginia, passed away peacefully on September 20, 2026, at Hilltop House Assisted Living in Winchester.
Born July 19, 1943, in Berkeley County, West Virginia, Max was the son of the late William “Billy” Umbenour and Leona (Brannon) Umbenour Nichols. He was a high school graduate and was the longtime owner and operator of Max’s TV Service, from which he later retired.
Max was a faithful member of the Winchester Church of God. He had a deep appreciation for the history of the Winchester and Frederick County area and enjoyed collecting milk bottles. He was a proud member and past president of the Apple Valley Bottle Club. Max was also a devoted animal lover and cherished the time he spent at the river lot.
In addition to his parents, Max was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Margaret (Lockhart) Umbenour, whom he married on December 19, 1970; and by his brothers, Douglas, and Charlie Umbenour; stepdaughter Robin Dillow; and step- granddaughter Lisa Maher.
Max is survived by his son, Tracy Umbenour and wife Michelle; granddaughter Julia; brother Willie Umbenour and wife Joyce and sister Susie Hobday and husband, Joe.
He is also survived by his stepdaughters, Linda Allamong and husband Steve, and the families of the late Robin Dillow, including Donnie; and his stepsons, Bracky Dunlap and wife Debra, Jeff Dunlap and wife Robin, and Kevin Dunlap and wife Angie.
He leaves behind step-grandchildren and bonus grandchildren, including J.D., Chris, Shawn, Skipper, Jeffrey, Danni, Loretta, Sheena, Mark, Sarah, Danielle, Jessica, and Mindy.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, September 24, 2026, from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. at the Winchester Church of God, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 p.m., with Pastor Scott Orndorff officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Olive United Methodist Church Cemetery.
