Max Fadala Toussaint was born February 23, 1934 in Port-au-Prince, Haïti. Our beloved Max Toussaint was the fifth of seven children from the union of the late Fadala Toussaint and Anathalie (Prophete) Toussaint. Max spent his formative years in Port-au-Prince where he received his primary and secondary education at College St. Martial before going on to study telecommunications. In the summer of 1960 Max married Marie Jose Jeanty, and became the proud father of Rose May in 1962, and Gary the following year. In the winter of 1976, subsequent to his marriage to Marie Jose, Max married Norma Osorio.
In 1965 Max left his beloved Haïti in pursuit of an engineering career in New York. Shortly thereafter he was employed by DataBit, a communications engineering firm where he remained until his retirement at the age of 60. Several years after retirement Max and his wife Norma relocated to San Antonio, Texas where he then became a member of Scenic Hills Seventh Day Adventist Church.
While at DataBit he earned an Engineering degree at Hofstra University. His tenure as a Sales Engineer at DataBit afforded him the opportunity to travel the world developing telecom infrastructure in places like Asia, Latin America, the Caribbean and in Africa, specifically in Zambia where he experienced the richness of African culture first-hand during his stay with a host family.
For many years Max was an active member of Patchogue Spanish Seventh Day Adventist Church (Iglesia Adventista) in Medford, NY. He was a quiet soft-spoken man who loved God, people, and the many cultures that distinguish yet connects people from very different parts of the world. He was also a proponent of education, both formal and informal. Max held an appreciation for technology, and was an avid reader of technical books. He was known to share his affection for technology with his grandchildren during their educational trips to museums, aquariums, and even caverns. Whether he spoke in Creole, French, Spanish or English it was clear to all who knew him that he enjoyed learning about and discussing the nuances of technology.
On Thursday, September 3, 2015 Max F. Toussaint stepped from time to eternity, leaving to mourn his passing and celebrate his life…his beloved wife Norma Toussaint, daughter Rose May Toussaint, grandchildren Priscilla and Raphael Portes (Valley Stream, NY), Michael and Nicolas Toussaint (Houston, TX), daughter-in-law Marjorie; siblings Jeanne Toussaint (Brooklyn, NY), Marie Jose Toussaint-Camille (Port Charlotte, FL) and Guy Toussaint (Montreal, Canada), along with a host of family, friends and loved ones. He was preceded in death by siblings Emile, Justin, and Aline, and by his only son Gary V. Toussaint.
The entire Toussaint family wishes to express our profound gratitude to friends and well wishers who by personal visits, telephone calls and gifts expressed their condolences. We appreciate all who’ve travelled from far and near to stand with us during our time of sorrow. May God reward you abundantly and grant you traveling mercies as you return to your destinations.
