Mary Wyrough Pilger, 94, of Winchester, Virginia, formerly of Kenosha, Wisconsin, passed away Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at Winchester Medical Center.
Born February 28, 1932, in Youngstown, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late George J. Wyrough and Mary McCoy Wyrough. Mary grew up in Trenton, New Jersey where she married Martin Pilger who was a US Naval officer. The couple moved many times early in their marriage before settling in Kenosha, Wisconsin in 1967. Mary dedicated her life to her family as a homemaker.
Mary was a woman of many interests and deep community involvement. She was a dedicated member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Kenosha, Wisconsin, where she ran the Senior Citizens Program for a number of years, helped in the school and fed many priests at her dining room table.
She served as President of the Lawyers’ Wives Association and the Kenosha Symphony League in Wisconsin. She was also a dedicated volunteer for Meals on Wheels. An amateur artist and avid reader, Mary traveled extensively with her husband during their 71 years of marriage.
She is survived by her husband, Martin F. Pilger Jr., whom she married on March 5, 1955, in Trenton, New Jersey.
Also surviving are her sons, Martin “Marty” Pilger III (Marianne) and Michael Pilger (Jill); her daughters, Margaret “Maggie” Lewis (Joe) and Mary Snyder (the late Dale); nine grandchildren, Emily Rose (Ryan), Nicholas Pilger (Amanda), Bridget Kelley (Devon), Michael Lewis (Celeste), Aidan Lewis (Leslie), Katelyn Snyder, Alexander Snyder (Amanda), Mary Rose Snyder, and Gabrielle Snyder; 10 great-grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Jean Barlow, and her brother, George Wyrough Jr.
A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church with Father Mark Mullaney officiating. Interment will follow at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice in Mary’s honor.
