Mary Virginia Gray Baker departed this life Sunday morning, January 9, 2022 in her home in Greenville, VA. Born July 12, 1934 to Daniel Monroe Gray and Julia Agnes Legg Gray in Leesburg, VA.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Daniel Lee Gray; step-sister, Linda Lou Chenault and her husband of almost 70 years, Melvin K. Baker, whom she married on November 27, 1950 in Warrenton, VA.
She is survived by her children: daughter, Betty Ann Ward & husband Donald of Marshall, VA; son, Melvin K. Baker Jr & wife Leanna of Leesburg, VA; son, Harry F. Baker II & wife Janet of Gaithersburg, MD; daughter, Donna Lynn Monk & husband Raymond of Stuarts Draft, VA; son, Paul S. Baker of Leesburg, VA and daughter, Gretta Agnes Cason & husband Brian of Greenville, VA. She is also survived by one stepbrother, William H. Pearson Jr of Montross, VA. Mary leaves behind 12 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces & nephews.
Until the decline in her health made it impossible, she enjoyed cooking, being with her family, going to church and spending time with her church family… Her homemade rolls, coconut cake, applesauce cake and pumpkins pies will be greatly missed.
Due to COVID we will be having a private funeral. We are saddened to feel the need of this since many we know wish to express their love and sympathy.
Rev. M. Kenneth Taylor, Pastor of House of Prayer, Bristow, VA will officiate.
Pallbearers will be grandsons and grandsons-in-law. Keith Ward, Joshua Baker, Matthew Baker, David Baker, Allen Monk, Aaron Hill and Jamie Helmick.
