Mary Velma (Hodgson) Ashwood, 94, formerly of Frederick County, Virginia, passed away Thursday, March 1, 2018, in Aldie, Virginia.
Mrs. Ashwood was born in 1923 in Mountain Falls, Virginia, the daughter of the late Laban and Zora (Boleyn) Hodgson. She was a graduate of John Handley High School and retired from National Fruit Company. Mrs. Ashwood was a member of Prime Timers, Civic League, Horticultural Society, and the Shenandoah Apple Blossom Committee. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Frederick County, Virginia.
Her husband, Winfred (Winnie) Russell Ashwood, whom she married on November 28, 1946 in Winchester, Virginia, preceded her in death in 2007.
Surviving is a daughter, Bonnie Diane Gregory (James) of St. Cloud, Florida; son, Michael Winfred Ashwood (Amonda) of Winchester, Virginia; grandchildren, Melissa Ashwood of Laurel, Maryland; Darin Ashwood of Winchester, Virginia; Daniel Ashwood (Jessica) of Winchester, Virginia; Shawna Brill (Steve) of Winchester, Virginia; and Ashleigh Beene (William) of Lewisville, Texas; great grandchildren, Sarah Brill and Jayden Ashwood, both of Winchester, Virginia; and brothers, Harry Rollings Hodgson of Woodbridge, Virginia and Lewis Allen Hodgson of Winchester, Virginia.
A gathering of family and friends will be from 6 pm to 8 pm on Monday at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 am on Tuesday at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel with Reverend Sonya Williams-Giersch officiating. Interment will be in St. John’s Cemetery, 3623 Back Mountain Road, Winchester, Virginia.
Serving as pallbearers will be Darin Ashwood, Daniel Ashwood, Tyler Hansen, Rodney Hodgson, Steve Brill, and Steve Sale.
