Mary Margaret Baker Bean, 85, of Middletown, Virginia, died Sunday, January 17, 2016, at Winchester Medical Center.
Mrs. Bean was born in 1930, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late Raymond and Irene Baker. She was a graduate of Little Flower High School in Philadelphia. Mrs. Bean was a retired cashier for the City of Philadelphia Tax Department and a former cashier for ACME Markets. She was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church; Sacred Heart Seniors, POCW (Parish Organization of Catholic Women) and Widows and Widowers Club of Winchester. Mrs. Bean enjoyed playing Scrabble and she wrote her own column “The Bean Pot” in The Villager Paper in Assonet, Massachusetts. Mary moved to Virginia from Assonet, Massachusetts in December 2009 to be close to her sister, Theresa.
She married Kenneth R. Bean on May 9, 1963, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He preceded her in death in December of 1985.
Surviving is her sister, Theresa Martin of Middletown, Virginia and brother, Nelson Baker and his wife, Kay, of Ocean City, New Jersey; nieces and nephews, Michael Baker (Cindi) of Tampa, Florida, Tim Baker (Peggy) of Ocean City, New Jersey, Beth Steinberg of Durango, Colorado, Melissa Park (Doug) San Luis Obispo, California, Suzanne Fahy (Tommy) of Coronado, California, Denise Martin and Cheryl Riddle of Lenoir, North Carolina and many loving great nieces and great nephews.
One brother-in-law, Lawrence E. Martin, preceded her in death.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening, from 4:00-7:00 PM, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church with Father Brendan W. Bartlett, officiating. Interment will be private.
