Mary Lou Gruber Smallwood, 68, of Stephenson, Virginia, died Sunday, August 30, 2015, in Winchester Medical Center.
Mrs. Smallwood was born in 1946, in Arlington, Virginia, the daughter of the late Walter M. and Martha E. Gruber. She was a graduate of Fairfax High School and attended Lord Fairfax Community College. Mrs. Smallwood was a banker with several banks including Potomac Bank and Trust, Dominion Bank – where she was the Branch Manager, First Virginia Bank and retired in 2012 from Virginia National Bank.
She enjoyed going to Charles Town Hollywood Casino, driving to Amish Country and watching the Redskins. However, her greatest joy was spending time with her family and friends.
She married John E. Smallwood, Jr. on May 3, 1981, in Brucetown, Virginia.
Surviving with her husband are her daughters, Mary Jo Mills (Kenny), Donna Lee Rodgers, both of Front Royal, Angela Grohman of Huntingtown, Maryland, Alisa Dillow (Sam) of Charles Town, West Virginia; grandchildren Holly Marie Mills, Haley Elizabeth Mills, Cassidy Fletcher, Lindsay Hall (Jeremy), Logan Wilt; great grandchildren, Gracelynn Wilt and soon to be born, Jackson Hall; and her sister, Betty Ann Seay of Clear Brook, Virginia.
The family will receive friends on Friday evening, from 6:00-8:00 PM, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Saturday, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel, with Pastor Yun Chol Kim officiating. Interment will be in Green Hill Cemetery in Berryville, Virginia.
