Mary Jobe Shenk, 77, of Frederick County, VA passed away Tuesday, August 21st, 2018, at her home in Cross Junction.
Mary was born in 1941, the 9th child of 10 children to Frederick W. Jobe and Elsie Emerson Jobe of Brucetown, VA. Mary was a member of the James Wood High School, Class of 1960 and was crowned Miss James Wood 1958. She was a graduate of American Schools of Chicago and did post graduate work in banking and real estate. Her career consisted of 40 years with the following; Investor’s Loan Company, Shenandoah Valley National Bank, Farmers & Merchants National Bank / F&M, Big Apple Mortgage Company, BB&T Bank, and several years in Real Estate Sales with George W. Glaize Realty Co.
Mary was a huge fan of the Washington Nationals and VA Tech Hokies. She loved to travel. After her husband, Dan, retired as Principal of Dowell J. Howard Vocational Center in 1991 they visited 46 States, Canada, and Germany. She loved to cook big meals for her family and friends. Her children and grandchildren were the love of her life, and she was the love and sunshine in theirs.
She married Daniel Shenk on June 12, 1959 at Brucetown United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Daniel A. Shenk; daughter, Dana Collins; son, Todd Shenk (wife, Lee Ann); son, Dwight Shenk (wife, Laura); brother, Alan Jobe (wife, Velda); sister, Oneta Reid; sister, Peggy Marcus; sister, Connie Oates (husband, Gary); sisters-in-law, Mary A. Jobe, Mary Lou Jobe, and Phyllis Jobe; brother-in-law, Roger Shenk (wife, Sue); 10 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents Mary was preceded in death by sister, Annabelle Collins and husband, Lee; brothers, Donald Jobe and wife, Ann, Richard Jobe, Fred Jobe and Rodger Jobe; brothers-in-law, Marcus Reid and Mahlon Marcus; nephews, Kenny Oates and Donnie Jobe; and granddaughter, Amy Hope Shenk.
A gathering of family and friends will be from 6 pm to 8 pm on Monday at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
A private memorial service for family only will be conducted at 10 am on Tuesday Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel with Doug Rinker officiating. Interment will be private.
