Mary Earl Goodwyne “Meg” Owen, 99, died Wednesday, December 16, 2015, at Spring Arbor of Winchester.
Mrs. Owen was born in 1916 in Forsyth, Georgia, the daughter of the late Early Napoleon and Mary Lou Banks Goodwyne. She graduated from Bessie Tift College in 1937 with an A.B. degree in English and Diploma in Expression. Mrs. Owen taught speech in Calhoun and Forsyth, GA. With the start of World War II, she worked for the railway in Atlanta helping to coordinate the movement of troops around the country. She married Rembert Reeve Owen on November 28, 1944, in Forsyth and began a long career as a homemaker. She moved to Signal Mountain, Tennessee in 1956 where she was a Charter Member of Signal Crest United Methodist Church. She moved to Winchester in 1998 and was an associate member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband on December 18, 1990; her son, Rembert Reeve Owen, Jr.; sister, Ruth Goodwyne and brother, Shi Gray Goodwyne.
Surviving is her daughter, Susan O. Utt (James) of Winchester; daughter-in-law, Kathy Owen of Houston, TX; grandchildren, Emily Reeve Thomas (Robert), Tyson James Utt (Jessica); great grandchildren, Robert Reeve Thomas, William Wise Thomas, Lillian Christine Utt and Evelyn Marie Utt; maternal niece, Georganne Wood (Jeff) of Knoxville, TN and numerous paternal nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be at 1:30 PM on Sunday, December 20, at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, with Pastor Martha Miller Sims and Pastor Jonathan Boynton officiating. A reception will follow the service. Interment will be at the National Cemetery in Chattanooga, TN.
