Mary Frances Spence, 81 of Winchester, VA, passed away on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at her home.
Mary was born in 1943 in Front Royal, VA, the daughter of the late Robert Jackson and Lily Alice Pomeroy. She worked as district manager of the cleaning crew at Berryville Graphics and was co-owner of a used car dealership. Mary was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd. She volunteered with the ladies of her church delivering Meals on Wheels and was nominated for Volunteer of the Year with Clear Brook Fire Department. Along with her husband, they enjoyed taking care of their horses and cows. Mary enjoyed tending her flower garden. Most of all she loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She married Donald Leon Spence an Air Force Veteran on November 5, 1961, and he preceded her in death on October 10, 1996.
Mary is survived by her children, Teresa Carper (Greg) of Bunker Hill, WV, Denise Roe (Carl) of Winchester, VA, Mark Donald Spence (Tammy) of Winchester, VA, Scott Alan Spence of Winchester, VA, Dean Warren Spence of Winchester, VA; grandchildren, Reid “Bubba” Carper (Shannon) of St. Johns, FL, Taylor “Sissy” Foley (Charles) of Bunker Hill, WV, Sara Maphis (David) of Wardensville, WV, Kayla Spence (Kortlan) of Culpeper, VA, Ashley Spence of Erin, TN, Stephen Spence (Katie) of Inwood, WV, Robbie Spence of Winchester, VA, Shane Spence of Winchester, VA, Skylar Spence of WV, Brandon Spence of WV, and Desiree Forman of Winchester, VA; great-grandchildren, Maurie, Caden, Desalyn, Rory, Dax, Ireland, Quinn, Charlotte, Avery, Addison, Isla, Aubrey, Aspen, Eli, Gracie, Cody and Alexis and her sister, Julia Pomeroy of Front Royal, VA.
Along with her parents and husband, Mary is preceded in death by her daughter, Kelly Elizabeth Spence; sister, May Pomeroy and brothers, William “Red” and Marion Pomeroy.
A visitation will be held for Mary on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, from 6pm to 8pm with a service to be conducted the following day, Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at 11am all held at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Pastor Vernon Bray will officiate.
