Mary Ellen Evans McCarty, 105, of Frederick County, Virginia, died Sunday, July 27, 2014, in the Heflin Home in Winchester, Virginia.
Mrs. McCarty was born in 1908, in Cambria County, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late William and Margaret Evans. Mrs. McCarty was a graduate of Cambria Rowe Business College. She was a Supervisor of National Fruit retiring after 40 years of service.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Winchester, the United Methodist Women, Golden Link Class and Amy’s Kitchen Band, playing the tambourine for over 20 years.
She married H. Clinton McCarty on May 15, 1929, in Pennsylvania, he preceded her in death on July 4, 1980.
Surviving is her daughter, Geraldine M. Sandy and her husband, Bill, of Frederick County; grandson, David Sandy, Sr. and wife, Ellen, of Stephens City; foster grandchildren, Mary Virginia Fletcher and husband, Michael, of Charleston, West Virginia, Dennis Travers and wife Nancy of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania; great grandchildren, David Sandy, Jr., Jeremy Collins, Jamie Collins Doffermire and husband, Rick; grandson-in-law, Michael Witt and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by foster daughter, Betty Pugh Travers and her husband, Fenton; granddaughter, Rhonda Sandy Witt; foster grandson, David Travers; sister, Edith Evans Keller, and nine brothers, James, John, Samuel, George, Howard, Harry, William, Robert and Alfred Evans.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, from 6:00-8:00 PM at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Thursday, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel with Mr. David A. Owings officiating.
