Mary Elizabeth Luttrell, 95, of Winchester, Virginia died Sunday, January 22, 2017 at Blue Ridge Hospice Inpatient Care Center.
Ms. Luttrell was born in 1921 in Sharpsburg, Maryland, the daughter of the late O. Everett and Charlotte M. Kretzer; stepdaughter of the late Grace V. Kretzer. She was a homemaker in her own home and a member of White Hall United Methodist Church. Ms. Luttrell enjoyed playing bingo at Round Hill Fire Department, crocheting, playing Yahtzee, and watching baseball. She was an avid Baltimore Orioles fan, as well as being very active in her church community. Her greatest passion was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Surviving are grandchildren, Laurie Moulden (Mike), Lawrence Layman, Lauren Layman, Dustin Luttrell (Brooke), Preston Luttrell (Addeea), and Brandon Luttrell (Amanda); son-in-law, Larry Layman; daughter-in-law, Nancy L. Luttrell; great grandchildren, Joshua and Sarah Moulden, Adrianna Luttrell, and one on the way.
Ms. Luttrell was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Elizabeth M. Layman, son, Bruce E. Luttrell, brother, Lee; sisters, Margaret and Cordelia.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel with Pastor Thomas Reynolds and Pastor Mike Moulden officiating. Interment will be in White Hall United Methodist Church Cemetery, 3265 Apple Pie Ridge Road, Winchester, Virginia.
As everyone knows, Mary loved to crochet and share afghans with those she loved. If you were blessed to have received one of these afghans, Mary’s family request that you please bring it to her visitation and service.
Pallbearers will be Larry Layman, Lawrence Layman, Jr., Dustin Luttrell, Preston Luttrell, Brandon Luttrell, Josh Moulden, Lauren Layman, and Gary Luttrell. Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Sowers and Herb Taylor.
