Mary Agnes Edens
Mary Agnes Nelson Edens, age 73, of Winchester, Virginia, died Monday, March 12, 2012, in Blue Ridge Hospice Inpatient Care Center.
Ms. Edens was born in 1938, in Martinsburg, West Virginia, the daughter of the late Harry A. and Evelyn R. Nelson. She was a graduate of John Handley High School, class 1956. Mary then graduated from Marian Junior College and attended Madison College. She worked as an editorial assistant for both the National Geographic Magazine as well as Johns Hopkins University Press. Later in life Mary worked for Special Love and Preservation of Historic Winchester. She was a member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, Preservation of Historic Winchester, Friends of the Handley Library, and the Winchester Democratic Committee.
Mary is the last of her immediate family. Her sister, Linda Nelson, preceded her in death. She is survived by many close friends and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Monday, March 19, 2012, at the Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel, with the Reverend Dr. James Utt officiating. Interment will be in Mount Hebron Cemetery.
A visitation will be conducted on Sunday from 2:00 until 4:00 PM at the funeral home.
