Martha Sue (Edmonds) Reid, age 89, of Winchester, Virginia, passed away peacefully at her residence on Saturday, June 6, 2026.
Born on December 1, 1936, in Lick Creek, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Alonzo Edmonds and Melda (Jones) Edmonds. Martha was a proud graduate of the James Wood High School Class of 1956. She spent her career working in Quality Control for Crown Cork & Seal, dedicatedly serving the company until her retirement in 1998.
Martha was a faithful and active member of the Church of Christ at Mountain View. She loved her community, her church family, and above all, her beloved family.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Paul E. “Peanut” Gillespie, who passed away on August 14, 1982; her second husband, Garland Lorain “Jerry” Reid, who passed away on June 30, 2019; her sister, Jenny Clark; and her brothers, Robert Edmonds, and Ross Edmonds.
Martha is survived by her daughter, Carol Ann Swartz (Charlie) of Frederick County, VA, Sons, Dewey Eugene Gillespie (Carol Ann) of Morgan County, WV, and Donald Blane Gillespie of Winchester, VA, grandchildren, Chelsea Jade Swartz, Joseph Paul Gillespie, Christian Ellis Gillespie, Dewey Eugene Gillespie, Jr., and Jerit Joseph Gillespie and great-granddaughter, Morgana Gillespie.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, June 11, 2026, at 10am with a service to be conducted at 11am at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel. The service will be officiated by Evangelist Doug Hardman. Interment will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park. Following the burial a time of food and fellowship will be held at The Church of Christ at Mountain View.
The pallbearers will be Dewey Gillespie, Donald Gillespie, Charles Swartz, Joseph Gillespie, Chris Gillespie and Dewey Gillsespie, Jr.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks and deepest appreciation to Blue Ridge Care and Dr. Mark Galbraith for the exceptional, compassionate care provided to Martha.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in Martha’s honor to the Church of Christ at Mountain View, 153 Narrow Lane, Winchester, VA 22602 or to Blue Ridge Care, 333 W. Cork St., Suite 405, Winchester, VA 22601.
