Martha Lea Payne, 79 of Winchester, VA, passed away on Monday, September 18, 2023 at Heritage Hall in Front Royal.

Martha was born in Cabins, WV, in 1944, the daughter of the late Ira Wilson and Bernice (Alt) Wolford. She attended Canon McMillian High School in Canonsburg, PA. Martha was a former Woman of the Moose. She enjoyed playing rummy, watching western movies and most of all loved spending time with her family and grandchildren. She will be forever missed for her unconditional love.

She married Jackie “Jack” Howard Payne, Sr. on June 13, 1963 in Purcellville, VA, he preceded her in death on December 1, 2008.

Martha leaves behind to cherish her memory a daughter, Diane Evette Walker (Mark) of Stephens City, VA; son, Jackie Howard Payne, Jr. (Stephanie) of Kearneysville, WV; grandchildren, Meghan Elizabeth Walker of Stephens City, VA, Emily Shay Walker of Stephens City, VA, Maryssa Leeann Bannan (Jon) of Chicago, IL and Tia Marie Reid of Kearneysville, WV and her brother, John R. Wolford of Washington, PA; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband; sisters, Mary Wolford, Ruth Anderson, Naomi Pearson, Esther Hafner; and brothers, Paul and James Wolford.

A visitation will be held for Martha on Thursday, September 21, 2023 from 6pm to 8pm with a service the following day, Friday, September 22 at 2pm all held at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel.

Interment will be in Macedonia United Methodist Church Cemetery. Officiating will be Pastor Len Burdick.

Pallbearers will be, Paul C. Wolford, John Evan Hafner, James H. Hafner, Joseph S. Hafner, Brandon M. Walker and Michael W. Fowler.
