Martha Coffey Smith
On Friday, June 30, 2017, Martha Coffey Smith, 91, of Cross Junction, Virginia slipped her hand into the nail scarred hand of Jesus at the Lynn Care Center in Front Royal, Virginia.
Martha was born in 1925 in Glasgow, Virginia, the daughter of the late Rutherford G. and Delilah K. Coffey. She was retired having worked as a cafeteria aide at Robert E. Aylor Middle School. Prior to working at the school, Martha retired from Midwesco in Winchester where she worked as a seamstress. Martha kept busy working in her flower garden, crocheting and knitting, and baking delicious homemade bread. She also enjoyed traveling with Shenandoah Tours. She was a member of Winchester Church of God.
Surviving are her sons, John Daniel Smith (Virginia) and Michael Wayne Smith (Sharon), both of Cross Junction, Virginia, and William Stephen Smith (Cindy) of Winchester, Virginia; six grandchildren, John Allen Smith (Jenn), Kevin Stephen Smith (Meadow), and Kelsey Knight, all of Winchester, Virginia, Tracy M. Stapleton (Timothy) and Kelly Jo Smith, both of Stephens City, Virginia, and Sarah Hammond of Washington, D.C.; and eight great grandchildren, Cody, Corrine, Olivia, Mia, Alex, Damon, Gwendolyn, and Vicky.
Preceding her in death was a sister, Annie Johnson and her brother, Elmer G. Coffey.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 5, 2017 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Omps, Amherst Chapel.
A funeral service will be conducted on Thursday, July 6, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Omps, Amherst Chapel with Pastor Alan Morrison officiating. Interment will be in Mount Olive Cemetery, Hayfield, Virginia.
Pallbearers will be John D. Smith, Michael Smith, William Smith, John A. Smith, Kevin Smith, and John C. Smith.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff at the Lynn Care Nursing Facility for the wonderful care and kindness that she received while being there.
