Martha (Chappell) Edmiston, 86, of Winchester, VA, passed away Thursday, February 24, 2022 at Shenandoah Valley Westminster Canterbury.

Martha was born in 1935 in Monroe, LA, the daughter of the late Dennis and Nellie Scott Chappell. She received her bachelor’s degree in education from Louisiana Tech.

She married her high school sweetheart, Charles S. “Sam“ Edmiston on Sept, 10, 1955.

Martha is survived by her daughters, Kim Williams of Chapel Hill, NC, and Koy Mislowsky of Winchester, VA, along with five grandchildren who adored her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Sam, and brother, Harry Blake Chappell. A celebration of life for Martha will be held on June 4 at 2 p.m. at Christ Episcopal Church in Martinsville, VA.

She loved music, dancing, her children and grandchildren. She was a long-time resident of Martinsville, VA.

A close family friend said, “A fine, southern lady always knows when to leave a party. Martha left in style, with dignity, and on time.”

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Smile Train or to Christ Episcopal Church in Martinsville, VA .
