Martha “Catherine” McFarland, 98, of Frederick County, VA, passed away Thursday, March 5, 2026, surrounded by family at her home.
Ms. McFarland was born in 1928 in Fort Valley, VA, daughter of the late Perry and Beatrice Richardson. She was a Dietician who worked for Service America, Winchester Medical Center, and in the cafeteria at James Wood High School. Ms. McFarland retired from James Wood High School at the age of 82! She enjoyed planting flowers and vegetables in her garden and collecting Jesus and Angel figurines. Ms. McFarland was a devoted wife, mother, and Christian. She loved attending churches and most often attended Greenwood Baptist Church.
Her husband, Linden Wesley McFarland, whom she married on April17, 1948, preceded her in death in 2003.
Surviving are daughters, Barbara Cooper of Winchester, VA and Linda Orndorff (Frank) of Cross Junction, VA; grandchildren, Wesley Cooper of Winchester, VA, Bobbi Stevens (Jeff) of Gore, VA, Betty Jenkins (Trampes) of Augusta, WV, Melissa Hawkins of Winchester, VA, and Amanda Marshall (Jason) of Winchester, VA; eight great-grandchildren; one great, great-grandchild and one great, great-grandchild on the way.
Along with her parents and husband, Ms. McFarland was preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda Diane Sandy; and her siblings, Mildred Costello, Gladys Lichlighter, and Harold Richardson.
The family will receive friends from 10 am to 11 am on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel. A funeral service will follow the visitation at 11 am with Pastor Stuart Pauley officiating. Interment will be in Mount Olive Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be Sam Pitcock, Wesley Cooper, Brad Cooper, Linden Hawkins, Jason Marshall, and Wyatt Jenkins.
