Marie Haspel, 82, of Dunnellon, FL, passed away March 8, 2014 in Winchester, VA. Marie was born in Brooklyn, NY, and moved to Long Island NY, where she worked for the Town of Brookhaven Payroll Department. She retired to St. Croix USVI with her husband William and became Executive Director of the St. Croix Hotel Association. After 12 years in St. Croix she moved to Florida where she taught classes of quilting and purse making at A. White Sewing. She was a Certified Eleanor Burnes Quilting Instructor. Marie earned the prestigious title of Teacher, becoming proficient in the Japanese Embroidery Art known as Bunka. Many of her wonderful art pieces are being enjoyed by family and friends. Marie enjoyed knitting and reading. She had a book dedicated to her by one of her favorite writers, Debbie Macomber. She was a Moose member. Marie especially loved cruising and traveling. With her vivacious and expressive personality Marie truly embraced and celebrated life. She was an inspiration to many. She was well loved and respected and will surely be missed. Surviving are her daughter, Annette Mannino and husband, Albert, a sister, Rose Golsner and husband, Fred, four stepchildren, Kirk, Gary and Brad Haspel and Cheryl Franzreb. She was preceded in death by her husband William Haspel, parents Anna and Giro and a daughter Linda. There will be a private celebration of her life Saturday, March 15, 2014, at her daughter’s home in Winchester, VA. A public Memorial Service will be held in Florida on Saturday, March 29, 2014, at 1:00 PM at First United Methodist Church, 21501 West Highway 40, Dunnellon, Florida with a celebration of her life gathering to follow in the church event room. Burial will be April 2, 2014, at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Florida.
