Maria Cristina G. Mendez

Maria Cristina (Gonzalez) Mendez, 70, of Linden, Virginia died Sunday, August 4, 2013 at her home.

Mrs. Mendez was born in 1943 in Monterrey, Mexico, the daughter of the late Andres Gonzalez-Cantu and Martha Aguirre-Celiceo Gonzalez.  She was a Finance Administrator for  FEMA. She attended the Church of God, Seventh Day. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

Mrs. Mendez married Victor M. Mendez on June 27, 1963 in place Monterrey, Mexico.  

Surviving with her husband are two daughters, Jessica Mendez-Thompson of Harrisonburg, Virginia and Cristal Rivera of Houston, Texas; two sons, Victor Mendez-Gonzalez of Linden, Virginia and Jaime Mendez of Las Vegas, Nevada; seven grandchildren; a sister, Martha Meza of Houston, Texas, and two brothers, Andres Gonzalez of Houston, Texas and Victor Gonzalez of Dallas, Texas.

The family will receive friends on Sunday from 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel.

A funeral service will be conducted at 12:00 Noon on Sunday at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel with Heber Vega officiating.  Interment will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park.

Victor & family, I want to send my condolences: Maria was a sweet lady I was so glad I was able to work with her over the years I had alot of memories and laughs.I will never forget the earthquake we had on the mountain. We were in the little room watching our show and eating our lunch and felt the room move and Maria said do you think the boiler blew up, but it wasnt that it was the earthquake then the couch moved. We knew it was not the boiler then. after we heard someone yelling to get out side. I enjoyed eating luch with her and just being around her. i never thought that it would be so soon she would be taken from us. I guess the Lord needed her more she always said the Lord knows best and he does things in his time.She was a sweet lady and alway had a smile on her face no matter what. She always talked about her family. She was blessed to have a wondrful family like you God Bless you all Keep in touch. Teresa Hill
