Margaret V. Kerns
Margaret Virginia Ashley Kerns, 80, of Clear Brook, Virginia, died Sunday, December 25, 2011, in a local nursing facility.
Mrs. Kerns was born in Landover, Maryland, in 1931, the daughter of Foster Finley and Leila Mae Ashley. She was employed by Crown Cork and Seal in the Quality Control Department retiring after 27 years of service. Mrs. Kerns was a member of Lighthouse Baptist Church where she was a member of the “Seasoned Saint’s” and the choir and recently attended Heritage Baptist Church She married Clarence “Buck” William Kerns who preceded her in death on October 10, 2009.
Surviving are two daughters, Margo Johnson and husband, Timothy, of Clear Brook, Virginia, Patsy Kerns; four sons, Lester “Jack” Whitacre of Winchester, VA, Donald Whitacre and wife, Diane of Griffin, Georgia, Douglas Whitacre and wife, Patricia of Winchester, VA and Ricky Kerns and wife, Theresa of West Virginia; 19 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; three sisters, Wanda Miller of Roanoke, Virginia; Bernice Smelser of Gore, Virginia and Betty Cole of Winchester
One sister, Evelyn Adams and brother, Upton “Buddy” Ashley, daughter in law, Roxie Ann preceded her in death.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Thursday at Lighthouse Baptist Church with Pastor Gerald Walkowiak and Pastor David Martin officiating. Interment will be Shiloh Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6:00 pm to 8:30 PM at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
