Margaret V. Timbrell, affectionately known as “Mimi,” 86, of Stephens City, Virginia, passed away Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at her home.
Born June 9, 1939, in Gloucestershire, England, she was the daughter of the late William Hughes and Violet Steele Hughes. Margaret was a high school graduate and shared over 45 years of marriage with her husband, the late Walter George Timbrell, whom she married in England. George and Margaret relocated to America in 1967 with their two boys, Paul and Philip. After their move to America a daughter, Christine, was welcomed to the family.
A woman with a lifelong passion for horticulture, Margaret worked for Colonial Williamsburg for 20 years, where she was a cherished employee and her British accent made her popular with the tourists. She later retired from Valley Health Systems, where she worked in the gift shop for 20 years. Her bright smile and beautiful voice comforted all who visited, whether a nurse, doctor, or visitor, she made all feel cared for and important. She was an active member of the Women’s Civic League and the Winchester Elks. Margaret found great joy tending to her home gardens and was a dedicated gardener throughout her life. Family was the most important part of Margaret’s life and she was so very proud of her grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter, Christine Kriz (Bud); two sons, Paul Timbrell (Donna) and Phil Timbrell (Gwen); four grandchildren, Jennifer Snell (Kenny), Jay Timbrell, Ty Kriz, and Hunter Kriz; and three great-grandchildren, McKenzie Snell, Carson Snell, and Jack Timbrell.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by son, Peter Timbrell, her brother, and daughter-in-law, Anita Timbrell.
All services will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice in Margaret’s honor.
