Margaret “Peggy” Thompson, 70, a resident of Winchester, VA passed away suddenly on Friday, June 14, 2024.
Peggy was preceded in death by her father, Earl J. Thompson, Jr., her mother, Helen Thompson, and her brother, Earl J. Thompson, III “Tommy”, all of North Palm Beach, FL. She is survived by two sisters, Mary Thompson Buttke of Kitty Hawk, NC and June Thompson Juaristi of Casselberry, FL, one brother, Robert Jeffery Thompson of Jupiter, FL, and nieces Kristin B. Thompson, Kimberly Long, Jackie Juaristi, Summer Thompson and nephews Joey Juaristi and Jonathan Thompson.
Peggy was a graduate of North Shore High School in West Palm Beach, FL where she was Captain of the cheering squad and Vice President of her class. After graduation, Peggy first worked as a bank teller on North Lake Blvd. in North Palm Beach while simultaneously being employed by W.P.B. Jai Alai. It was there that she met her husband, Erapel Beitia from the Basque country in Spain. Peggy was a devoted wife during Erapel’s transition from being a Jai Alai athlete to becoming a pilot and Captain with United Airlines, based out of Chicago, IL and Washington, D.C. While living in the Washington, D.C. area, Peggy also imported wines from Spain for restaurants in the area.
Among her hobbies were decorating, sewing and shopping for her nieces and nephews. She especially enjoyed designing and fabricating Halloween costumes that were award-worthy. Receiving a package from “Aunt Peg” never failed to elicit smiles and excitement and which often included candy, water balloons, light-up slingshot rockets, and even a marshmallow shooter. Peggy also loved animals, including dogs, ducks, birds and most recently a horse and donkey she met in Spain.
Peggy’s generosity and sense of humor made her a unique and special person; as one friend remarked, “God broke the mold when he made Peggy”. She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.
A memorial service will be held for Peggy at a later date in Florida.
