Margaret “Helen” Funkhouser, 91, of Winchester, Virginia passed away Friday, July 6, 2018, at her home.
Ms. Funkhouser was born in 1927 in Winchester, Virginia, the daughter of the late Ernest and Margaret Griffith. She was a graduate of Miller High School in Winchester and earned a business degree at Winchester Business School. She retired from Shenandoah Vinegar CoOp, which is now White House Food Products. Ms. Funkhouser was a member of the Winchester Moose Lodge and Forever Friends Society. She was always on the go…traveling, going to the theatre, or attending gospel shows. Ms. Funkhouser was an avid Bingo player, a fan of Elvis and the Lawrence Welk Show. She was a loyal supporter of Volunteers in Policing Program with Winchester Police Department. Ms. Funkhouser was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. A loving mother and sister that was always so proud of her four brothers that served in WWII.
Surviving are daughters, Joan Funkhouser of Winchester, Virginia and Peggy Julian of Norfolk, Virginia; son, Anthony Dwight Funkhouser (Cathy) of Winchester, Virginia; and best friend, Onile Bishop.
Along with her parents Ms. Funkhouser was preceded in death by a son, Steven Larrick Funkhouser and her siblings, Edna Williams, Blanche Smallwood, Mamie Fisher, Ernest, William, Roy, and Ray Griffith.
The family will receive friends from 6 pm to 8 pm on Tuesday at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
A funeral service will be conducted at 12 pm on Wednesday at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel with Pastor Philip King officiating. Interment will be in Mount Hebron Cemetery, Winchester, Virginia.
