Mabel Baker Carpenter
Mrs. Mabel Baker Carpenter, 87, of Winchester, died Wednesday, February 16, 2011, at a local nursing home.
Mrs. Carpenter was born on October 4, 1923, Kirby, WV, the daughter of the late Roy and Zella Haines Baker. She was a housewife, and a member of Braddock Street United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the VFW Auxillary. She was a graduate of Handley High School, Class of 1941.
Her husband, Raymond O. Carpenter, whom she married on June 30, 1946 in Frederick County, Virginia, preceded her in death in January, 1993.
She is survived by two sisters, Patricia B. Sonner and her husband, Calvin of Strasburg, VA, Leota B. Carroll of Winchester, VA;and a number if nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great nephews. Two sisters, Pleasant McKee and Rhoda Sirbaugh and two brothers, Burl V. Baker and Loring “Jimmy” Baker are deceased.
A funeral service will be conducted on Monday at 11:00 AM at Omps Funeral Home – South Chapel with Rev. Tony Layman officiating. Interment will be at Shenandoah Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends on Sunday afternoon from 2 – 5 p.m. at Omps Funeral Home – South Chapel.
