M. Verneda Banks Owens

M. Verneda Banks Owens, age 84, of Frederick County, Virginia, died Sunday, May 1, 2011, at her residence.

Mrs. Owens was born in 1926, in Hamilton, Ohio, the daughter of the late Fred and Matilda Banks. She was a homemaker and farmer. She worked at National Fruit in the Incentive Department, retiring after 17 years of service. She was a member of the Gainesboro United Methodist Church and Home Demonstration Club.

She married Guy Owens on April 13, 1946, in Clintwood, Virginia. He preceded her in death on May 27, 2000.

Surviving are her children, Douglas Owens and wife, Penny, of Winchester, Virginia, Wanda Fletcher and her husband, Douglas, of Winchester, Virginia; four grandchildren, David Braithwaite, Jr., Douglas Owens, Jr., Ashley Owens Cave, and Brian Owens; four step children, Gerry Zirkle, Gleema Donald, and Randy Owens, all of Winchester, Virginia, and Rodney Owens of Concord, North Carolina; three great grandchildren, John Braithwaite, Shenandoah Braithwaite, and Nicholas Braithwaite; two sisters, Lucetta Smith of Coldwater, Michigan and Claudia Banks of Isom, Kentucky; and three brothers, Charles Banks of Oceanside, California, James Banks of Vista, California, and Orbin Banks of Chicago, Illinois. Three brothers preceded her in death.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 PM, on Thursday at Shenandoah Memorial Park, Frederick County, Virginia with Reverend Anthony Wadsworth officiating. Interment will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 PM, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
