Lula Mae Benson
Lula Mae Benson, age 91, of Middletown, Virginia, died Saturday, March 17, 2012, at her home.
Mrs. Benson was born in 1921, in Fairfield, Virginia, the daughter of the late Charles Ernest and French Alabama Thorn. She was a homemaker and of the Pentecostal faith.
Her husband, Robert H. Benson, preceded her in death in 1998.
Mrs. Benson is survived by a daughter, Mary Barnhart of Middletown, Virginia; three sons, John Benson and wife, Dollye of Winchester, James Benson and wife, Rita, of Winchester, and Clyde Benson and wife, Joan, of Middletown; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-six great grandchildren; and eleven great, great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by two daughters, Jo Ann Donivan and Martha Betson, one son, Howard E. Benson, three grandchildren, Stacy Stotlemyer, Cynthia Chilcott, and Rodney Hunt, one great grandchild, Daniel Haines, two sisters and four brothers.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, March 21, 2012, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel, with the Reverend Allen Roby officiating. Interment will be at 3:00 pm at McElwee Chapel Cemetery, Brownsburg, VA with a gathering at the church one hour prior to the interment.
Pallbearers will be Todd Meade, Tom Edens, Stan Brown, Wallace Stotlemyer, James Benson, and John Helmick.
Honorary pallbearers will be Zachery Meade, Ruben Velazquez, Christopher Velazquez, Sam Reel, Bowen Murphy, and Rocko Montgomery.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Omps, Amherst Chapel.
