Lucille Marie (Monte) Stiefel, affectionately known as “Lucia,” passed away peacefully at her home on September 7, 2026, at the age of 85.
Born on March 6, 1941, in Bayside, New York, Lucille was the daughter of the late Bartolomeo and Carmella (Vullo) Monte. An exceptionally bright student, she graduated early with honors from Bayside High School at age 17. She married the love of her life, Robert “Bob” Joseph Stiefel, Sr., on June 6, 1959, at Blessed Sacrament Church in Bayside. Together they built a life filled with family and faith until Bob’s passing in November 2025.
Earlier in life, Lucille worked as a bank teller in New York before devoting her time fully to creating a warm, welcoming home for her family. A devout member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Winchester, Virginia, she actively participated in the church’s Seniors Group. Lucille found great joy in cooking, playing bridge, and showcasing her talented skills as a seamstress and avid quilter.
Lucille was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bob; her son, Robert J. Stiefel, Jr.; and her brother, Joseph Monte.
She is survived by her loving daughters, Barbara Ann Stiefel of Harpers Ferry, West Virginia, and Christine Stiefel O’Neill (Golder) of Winchester, Virginia; her cherished grandchildren, Skyler O’Neill (Joy Floyd) of Prince William County, Virginia, and Gabriel O’Neill of Winchester, Virginia; her sisters, Marie Cronin, and Joan Laronga, both of Bayside, New York; her sister-in-law, Angela Katherine La Monte Stiefel of Florida; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, from 6pm to 8pm with the rosary to be said at 7:30pm at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at 11am at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church. Interment will be in Mount Hebron Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Lucille’s honor to Blue Ridge Care, 333 W. Cork St., Suite 405, Winchester, VA 22601.
