Lowell Thomas “Tom” Shrout
Lowell Thomas “Tom” Shrout, 66, of Winchester, Virginia, died Thursday, October 17, 2013 in Winchester Medical Center.
Tom was born in 1947 in Baltimore, Maryland, the son of the late Hulbert and Norma Jean Shrout. Tom is a retired MSgt with the United States Army with over fourteen years of service, earning the Bronze Star and the Cross of Gallantry during the Vietnam War. He also served eight years with the National Guard, retiring in 1989. Mr. Shrout was a realtor for Sharon Stine Real Estate for the last 30 years. He was a member of the VFW Post #9760 in Berryville, Virginia, The Winchester American Legion, Charlestown Moose Lodge #948, Winchester Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aerie #824, and also the Elks Lodge.
Mr. Shrout married Mary Marie Hisghman Warner on May 16, 1979 in Winchester, Virginia.
Surviving with his wife are two daughters, Anita Dawn Shrout of Houston, Texas and Tammy Marie Bickert of Winchester, Virginia; three sons, Lester Franklin Warner and wife, Susan Marie of Stephens City, Virginia and Dwayne Dwight Warner and wife, Janine of Romeoville, Illinois; eleven grandchildren, Leslie Brown and husband, Jason, Jennifer Vaughan and husband, Patrick, Megan Hammock, Kaitlyn Hammock, Stephanie Adams-Click and husband, Wayne, Joshua Bickert CS3, U. S. Navy and wife, Kathy, John William Warner, Michael Pendleton, Amy Carr, Anne Fleischman and Wayne Warner and wife, Krystyn; fourteen great grandchildren, Destiny, Julius and Brandon Brown, Riley and Reese Vaughan, Haley Adams, Brayden Click, Tori, Austin and Connor Carr, Rachel Fleischman, Caleb Burton and Lilith and Willow Warner; one brother, Oren Shrout of Berryville, Virginia and a brother in law, Jonathan Hisghman.
Mr. Shrout, was preceded in death by a son Thomas Wayne Shrout and a sister Beulah Kerns, and beloved pets Giszmo and Austin.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6:00-8:00 PM at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
A funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday at 2:00 PM at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel with the Reverend Paul Campbell officiating.
Entombment will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park Mausoleum, Frederick County, Virginia, with military honors being afforded by VFW Post #9760 Honor Guard of Berryville, Virginia.
Pallbearers will be Joshua Bickert, Jason Brown, Patrick Vaughan, John Warner, Rick Shrout, Larry Shrout, and Wayne Click.
