Louise M. Duncan
Louise Mercer Duncan, age 92, a resident of Spring Arbor Assisted Living in Winchester, Virginia, died Friday, July 18, 2014, at Winchester Medical Center. Mrs. Duncan was born June 30, 1922, in Pearson, Georgia, the daughter of the late Luther Robert and Mary Morgan Mercer.
She was a graduate of South Georgia College where she received an elementary teaching degree. She was a bank teller for more than fifty years. Mrs. Duncan was an Elder of the Presbyterian Church. She was a member of Opequon Presbyterian Church where she was honored as an Older Adult of the Year. She served many years on the Evangelism Committee. She will be remembered for her involvement with the church Nametag Ministry and her personal card ministry.
She married Walter Rhea Duncan on June 21, 1946, in Pearson, Georgia. They made their home at Forks of Cacapon, West Virginia, from 1974 until Mr. Duncan’s passing on November 4, 1997.
Surviving are two daughters, Karen Dove and husband, Gary, of Forks of Cacapon, West Virginia, and Mary Himelright of Winchester, Virginia; grandchildren Adam Duncan Dove of Reston, Virginia, and Brian William Dove of Portland, Oregon; step-granddaughter Elizabeth Dove Phillips and her husband and their four children of Warrenton, Virginia. Along with her husband, she was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Erol W. Himelright, and her brothers Alton Mercer and Leon Mercer.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM on Tuesday at Omps Funeral Home (Amherst Chapel) 1600 Amherst Street, Winchester, Virginia. Interment will be private. A Celebration of Life will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Wednesday at Opequon Presbyterian Church with Pastor David Witt and Pastoral Assistant Jean Steidel officiating.
