Louise Elizabeth “Lou” Avey Singhass, 93, of Stephens City, Virginia (formerly of Winchester), died Wednesday, May 11, 2016, at her home.
Mrs. Singhass was born in 1923, in Martinsburg, West Virginia, the daughter of the late Clara and Roy Evers Avey. She was a graduate of Handley High School, Class of 1941. Mrs. Singhass was a homemaker and a member of Braddock Street United Methodist Church in Winchester. She was a Past President of the Winchester Lioness Club and Women’s Civic League and coordinator of the Apple Blossom Pageant for a few years in the 1960’s. Mrs. Singhass volunteered at the Winchester Medical Center, also working with Welcome Wagon and March of Dimes. She was an avid bridge player, loved gardening, playing golf and going to the beach. She was a big fan of “Big Band” and “Swing” music. Mrs. Singhass was a diehard Redskins fan, but, most of all she loved and adored her granddaughter and family.
She married Lester Pritchard Singhass on August 11, 1949, in Hagerstown, Maryland. He preceded her in death on December 8, 2010.
Surviving is her daughter, Suzi Kowalski and husband, John, of Winchester; son, Scott Singhass and wife, Patty, of Winchester; and granddaughter Sydney Louise Singhass of Charleston, South Carolina.
Her stepmother, Clara DeHaven Avey, preceded her in death.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Friday at Mount Hebron Cemetery, with Reverend Tony Layman officiating.
