Loretta Jewell (Powers) Markee, 91, of Winchester, VA, passed away on Thursday, October 5, 2023 quietly at home.

Jewell was born in 1932 in Fauquier County, VA, the daughter of the late, Fred and Mary Belle (Rasnake) Powers. She retired from the U.S. government as a Legal/Technical Editor, a job she worked at for 30 years. Jewell was a member of Lighthouse Full Gospel Church in Stephens City, VA. She loved flowers and bird watching.

Jewell married Gerald Everett Markee in April of 1950 in Waterville, ME, he preceded her in death on December 22, 2007.

She is survived by her daughter, Marilyn J. Nitz (Robert); sons, Curtis F. Markee (Carlene), Rev. Paul E. Markee (Tonia); 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 6 great great-grandchildren and her brother, Lloyd Powers (Susie).

Jewell is preceded in death by her parents, husband; daughter, Deanna J. Cook and her brothers, Dwayne, Wayne, Kirk, James and Robert.

A visitation will be held for Jewell on Monday, October 9, 2023 from 6pm to 8pm with a service the following day, Tuesday, October 10, 2023 at 11am, all held at Lighthouse Full Gospel Church, 110 Conestoga Lane, Stephens City, VA 22655. Interment will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park. Officiating will be Rev. Paul E. Markee.
