Lonnie J. Beckwith, 75, of Frederick County, Virginia passed away Monday, September 17, 2018, at Blue Ridge Hospice Residential Facility.
Mr. Beckwith was born in 1942 in Natrona Heights, Pennsylvania, the son of the late John and Evelyn Beckwith. He was a graduate of Tarentum High School in Pennsylvania and a veteran of the United States Air Force having served during the Vietnam era. Mr. Beckwith was a security police officer with the U.S. Federal Government, retiring in 1995. He played church softball, loved woodworking, and working with Lionel trains. Mr. Beckwith enjoyed watching baseball, football, and basketball. His early morning routine included working a crossword puzzle while having a cup of coffee. He loved to talk to everybody, never meeting a stranger. Mr. Beckwith was a member of Kernstown United Methodist Church.
He married Patricia Beckwith on April 23, 1966 in Falls Church, Virginia at Graham Road Methodist Church.
Surviving with his wife is a daughter, Amy Beckwith of Hamilton, Virginia and a son, Gary Beckwith (Silvia) of Miami, Florida; grandchildren, Hayleigh Roldan (Christian) of Alexandria, Virginia, Laura Belle Briggs of Rossville, Georgia, and Tommy Beckwith of Miami, Florida; step-grandchildren, Bryan and Maria Heredia and Michael Nacho all of Kansas City, Kansas; great grandchildren, Eleanor and Julianna Roldan of Alexandria, Virginia and Eleanor Briggs; and sister, Darla Kelly of Natrona Heights, Pennsylvania; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Beckwith was preceded in death by a sister, Judy Baker and brothers, Loy and Gary Beckwith.
A celebration of life service will be conducted on his birthday, Saturday, October 20th, at 11 am at Kernstown United Methodist Church with Pastor Aaron Fitch officiating. A fellowship reception will follow the service at the church.
