Lois Ann (Gaige) Kirkwood
Lois Ann Kirkwood, 74, of Winchester, Virginia November 25, 2016 died peacefully in her home surrounded by friends and family.
Lois was born in 1942, the daughter of late Col. Wilbur Gaige, Jr. and Hazel Marie. Lois graduated from Falls Church High School in 1960. She then attended Duke University and graduated with a degree in nursing. She served as a nurse in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan. When she returned Lois married James L. Kirkwood, III, on May 6th, 1967. He preceded her in death on May 12, 2007. Lois was a loving cousin to Jack and Sue Lipscomb, aunt to Lauren, and loved by many devoted friends. She worked at Fairfax Hospital for 30 years until retirement. After retiring she became very active in volunteer work at Mount Olive UMC, Nags Head Church, Winchester Medical Center and animal therapy with her dogs, Lucky and JoJo.
Lois was very active in outdoor activities; hiking, kayaking, walking her dogs, and camping.
She will be greatly missed by all her many friends.
A Memorial Service will be at 11:00 am on Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at Mount Olive United Methodist Church in Winchester with Pastor Rev. Dr. Victor Gomez officiating.
