Linda Gray (Thomas) Funk, 75 of Middletown, VA, passed away on Monday, June 19, 2023 at Winchester Medical Center.

Linda was born in 1948 in Warren County, VA, the daughter of the late Alvin Clyde and Pearl Elizabeth Thomas. She was a graduate of John S. Mosby Academy and also graduated from Monroe Business College. Linda was employed with the City of Winchester for 45 years, most recently serving as a Certified Master Deputy Commissioner of the Revenue. She enjoyed scrapbooking, BINGO at the Middletown Fire Hall, and watching NCIS. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her grandkids.

She is survived by her husband, Donald Stephen Funk, whom she married on September 16, 1972; son, Stephen T. Funk (Chrissy) of Ashburn, VA; grandchildren, Connor Funk of Front Royal, VA, Kaitlyn Funk of Fairfax, VA; brother, John Thomas (Joan) of Middletown, VA; special relatives, Maria Annette Bolton of Middletown, VA, Chrissy Thomas (Mitch) of Middletown, VA, Nathan Thomas of Middletown, VA, Kendall Poe (Tyler) of Front Royal, VA and her feline companion, Ziva.

Linda is preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Sally Rutherford, Connie Fitzwater, Jody Fitzwater, Janet Knaive; brothers, Jack Sperry, Charlie Sperry, Denny Thomas, and Jerry Thomas.

A visitation will be held Thursday, June 22, 2023 from 6pm to 8pm with a service the following day, Friday, June 23, 2023 at 11am all held at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel. Pastor Jeff Barbour will be officiating. Interment will be in Reliance Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be Nathan Thomas, Mitch Thomas, Kevin Thomas, Alex Lopez, Tyler Poe, and Dennis Funk, Jr.

Linda always had a great sense of humor. I remember the Bridal shower at the office she and other staff had for me when I was getting married in 1987. My husband was deployed with the USN and Linda saved a newspaper article of the ship coming in and drew a stick picture of me jumping into the water to swim out to the ship. I’m sure I still have it somewhere. She always made me laugh and I enjoyed working next to her office in the Treasurers Office. I always loved popping in to say hello to her. Even years after I moved away, Linda was one whom I would stop in and see if I was in town. She was a beautiful soul. Many heartfelt condolences to her Family and friends. Linda will be greatly missed. I only had the pleasure of working with her for two months but she impacted me greatly in that short time. She welcomed me into the office with open arms and made me laugh until I cried multiple times. The office will never feel the same without Linda in it. She will never be forgotten and we will do all we can to carry her memory on to each and every employee that enters the COR office.

Linda was a positive presence in the Commissioner's Office. She always went out of her way to help me and make me feel welcome. She was definitely one of the bright lights in Winchester, and I know she will be missed by all.

I am sorry to hear about Linda's passing. She always had something funny to say. May memories give the family comfort during this sad time.

Sending my thoughts and prayers to Linda's family on their loss. I worked with Linda for 30 years and she filled everyone she knew with joy and laughter. I always felt happier after spending time with her in the Commissioner's Office. I particularly loved the funny poems she wrote. But the one that she wrote for me when I retired touched my heart deeply. She will be greatly missed.

We will all miss Linda. Her laugh always brightened up the office. She had a heart of gold. Condolences to Donnie and the family. She loved you so much. Mark Harmon lost his number one fan.

Linda touched so many lives for the good. I'm grateful I had the chance to know her as both a colleague and a cherished friend for the past 21 years. Work side by side for that many years you become more like family than co-workers. Linda was more like a sister to me than a co-worker. I'm going to miss her fun-loving spirit so much.

Linda was a very special lady. Always smiling and had the best personality. Loved her loud, cackeling laugh, which made you laugh. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her.

I am so sorry for your loss. Linda was such a wonderful person, and will be greatly missed. I only had the pleasure of working with her for about a year and a half, but it felt like a lifetime. She made me feel welcome from day one. Her smile and laugh were infectious. And she was always willing to lend a hand. We will miss her dearly.

I’m truly sorry for your loss. Linda’s laugh could be heard for miles and made me laugh. Always a kind word to all she met.

So very sorry to hear of Linda’s passing. I’ve worked with Linda for 22 plus years. Her laughter will truly be missed in the office. My thoughts and prayers for Donnie and family through this very difficult time.
