Linda “Sue” Mergler, 75, of Winchester, VA, passed away Tuesday, January 2, 2024, at Inova Fairfax Hospital.
Sue was born in 1948 in Summersville, WV, daughter of the late Cecil Underwood, Jr., and Anna Louise Underwood. She was a graduate of Nicholas County High School in West Virginia. Sue retired from the Federal Government, where she worked for the Defense Intelligence Agency and had a long and productive career in information management.
In her decades of service with the DIA, she helped to manage the intelligence dissemination requirements for thousands of U.S. government offices, agencies and military commands around the world served by the DIA, aided system developers and contractors in automating information handling processes and shared generously of her time and expertise with those with whom she served. She was a highly respected and much beloved colleague.
In addition to her long service to the United States she was also an avid reader and loved to do arts and crafts such as quilting and painting and maintaining her yard.
She had a great love of family and knowing where she came from and had tracked the family genealogy on her own back to the 1100’s in Europe and was in contact with many extended family members.
Her last words were even about her family and ensuring that the love of her life was taken care of.
Surviving is her husband of 57 years, William; sons, William Mergler, Jr. and Scott Mergler; grandchildren, A.J. and Allie Mergler; and great grandchild, Quinton Murray.
Along with her parents, Sue is preceded in death by grandchildren, Jonothan Douglas Murray, and Sean Douglas Mergler; two sisters and two brothers.
All services will be private.
