Linda “Lindy” Hildreth, 64, of White Post, Virginia went to be with the Lord on Friday, May 25, 2018.
Lindy was born on October 2, 1953 in Valdosta, Georgia to the late Walter and Lois DeRoo. Lindy graduated from Indiana University with a Bachelor of Arts in English and later attended Oxford for post-grad work in English Literature. Lindy was very festive and decorated the house for every holiday and occasion. She was known for her annual Christmas letter and holiday cheer. She loved music in all genres and made mix tapes (later CDs) every year with her favorite songs. Lindy was an avid reader and participated in book clubs throughout her life, and she enjoyed hosting gatherings for her children, friends, and neighbors. She loved running and participated in many 5K and 10K races, and even placed in a few of them in her later years when she was in older age brackets. She also enjoyed calligraphy and creative writing. She had an active role in writing the church newsletters at the National Cathedral and later at St. Timothy’s Episcopal in Herndon, Virginia. During the summers, Lindy always made sure to visit Rehoboth Beach at least once, and always looked forward to eating Thrasher’s french fries and Grotto’s pizza. Her home was filled with lighthouse decorations, and also photos of her children. She took her job as a mother very seriously and was very active in her children’s life. She liked to wear bright, fun colors while volunteering on field trips or at swim meets, regattas, or other sporting events for her children. Lindy also had a strong love for her pets, whom she will finally be with again.
Lindy is survived by a daughter, Heather Hildreth and a son, Clarke Hildreth, both of Vienna, Virginia. She is also survived by her brother, Mark DeRoo of Kansas City, Kansas, and her former husband and father of her children, Max Hildreth of Lake of the Woods, Virginia. Lindy will be missed by everyone she knew and every life she had touched.
