Linda D. Giardina, age 79, residing in Winchester, Virginia, passed away on Saturday, May 20, 2017, in Envoy Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Winchester.
Linda was born in 1937 in Opelousas, Louisiana, the daughter of the late R.P. and Cecelia D. Dunbar, and lived most of her adult life in New Orleans. She worked in the banking and restaurant industries as well as raising a family at home. She was a devout Catholic who loved her God and her family. She enjoyed watching and playing tennis and pulling for the New Orleans Saints and LSU Tigers. Her favorite memories were holidays with family and good times at the beach, attending football games, and having the opportunity to go to Wimbledon.
Linda married Ralph J. Giardina in 1977 in the Dominican Republic. He preceded her in death in 2014. Together, they frequently traveled with Ralph’s job at Ruth’s Chris Steak House and loved sharing stories of fun times spent with friends and family.
Surviving are a daughter, Julie Shaffer (Matt); step-daughters, Debbie Brandt (Steve) and Darlene Lusk (Ron); step-sons, Danny Giardina (Vivian) and David Giardina; grandchildren, Samuel Shaffer, Cecelia Shaffer, and another grandchild on the way; several step-grandchildren and great grandchildren; sister, Carolyne DeJean (Felix); a brother, Chris Dunbar (Verna); and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Ann and Robert “Cotton” Purser, and a step-grandson, Christopher Brandt.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Sunday, July 9th at St. Landry Catholic Church, Opelousas with Father Jim Brady officiating. A private interment will be held in the Holy Sepulcher Mausoleum the following day.
