Lila Judy (Rigney) Dowdy, 72, of Stephens City, VA, died Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at her home.
Mrs. Dowdy was born in 1941, the daughter of the late Birchie and Frances Rigney. She was a 1960 graduate of Climax High School and was a member of Fellowship Bible Church. She was a homemaker and a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was an avid fan of NASCAR and went to many races on the East Coast.
Mrs. Dowdy married Llewellyn “Lew” Dowdy, Sr. on September 4, 1966 in Cardwell, VA.
Surviving with her husband are two daughters, Lisa Hergenrather and husband, Shaw of Sterling, VA and Andrea King and husband, David of Stephens City, VA; a son, Lew Dowdy, Jr. and wife, Michelle of Stephens City; six grandchildren, Joshua King of Winchester, VA, Jackson Hergenrather, Cole Hergenrather, Amanda Hergenrather and Ava Hergenrather, all of Sterling, VA, and Ashlynn Dowdy of Stephens City; two great grandchildren, Vivian Miller of New Jersey and Connor King of Winchester; a sister, Joyce Shipp and husband, Jim of Mechanicsville, VA and three brothers, Clyde Rigney, Jr. and wife, Cecilia of Winfield, TX, Ronald Rigney and wife, Leara of Danville, VA, and Phillip Rigney and wife Carol, of San Antonio, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Dowdy was preceded in death by a grandson, Matthew King and a brother, Wayne Rigney.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Saturday with Pastor Mark Carey officiating. Interment will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park.
