Leona W. “Momoo” Whittaker

Leona Amanda “Momoo” Whittaker, age 77, of Stephens City, VA, died Friday, May 11, 2012, at Winchester Medical Center. Mrs. Whittaker was born March 27, 1935, in Stephens City, VA, the daughter of the late Paul and Olive Wise. She was a sales associate at J. C. Penny, retiring in 2005, and she had also been employed by Target. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Winchester. Mrs. Whittaker was a graduate of James Wood High School, Class of 1953.

Surviving is a daughter, Diana Johnson of Stephens City; two sons, Timothy Whittaker and wife, Shelley of Stephens City and Rick Whittaker and wife, Cheri of Marion, VA; six grandchildren, Timothy D. Whittaker, Danielle Shanholtz, Brandi Lloyd, Mikayla Johnson, Abbigale Johnson, and Jeremy Whittaker, and one Great Grandchild, Caitlynn Shanholtz. A sister, Eloise Martin and a brother, Alfred Wise preceded her in death.

There will be a Celebration of Life to honor Mrs. Whittaker on Thursday, May 17, 2012, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel, from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Interment will be private.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 5540 Falmouth Street, Richmond, VA 23230 or Virginia Cancer Specialists Relay for Life Team, 1870 Amherst Street, Suite F, Winchester, VA 22601.

Nonie was the most caring & giving person I know. She was like a grandma to me. She treated me as though I was one of her own grandchildren since I was born. I can't ever remember a time when she wasn't there. When my daughter was born she drove home from Myrtle Beach, SC just to see her. She helped me pick out my wedding dress. I worked with Leona at O'Sullivan many years ago, she was the nicest person, I stayed in touch and would talk to her at Penny's.
